School Improvement
Ohio Improvement Process (OIP)
Ohio is committed to the implementation of a unified state system of support directly focused on improving the academic achievement of all students and student groups. The Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) articulates a systemic and coherent approach to improving districts and schools not just for the short term, but by changing fundamental structures and processes that will lead to sustainable improvement.
Structures and tools are available for district (DLT) and building leadership teams (BLTs) to use throughout the OIP process. As shown in the visual below, in Stage 1, district/building leadership teams use data to identify areas of greatest need; in Stage 2, they develop a focused district plan with a limited number of goals and strategies targeted at instructional practice and student performance; in Stage 3, the focused plan is implemented and monitored; and in Stage 4, evidence is gathered to evaluate the implementation and impact of school improvement efforts.
