Differentiated Instruction
Differentiated Instruction refers to strategies being utilized to respond to the achievement gap among learners. Differentiated Instruction is not a brand new way of teaching but is rather the systematic approach used to plan curriculum and instruction for academically diverse learners. With the expanding educational diversity found in current classrooms, many strategies and resources can be utilized to address the critical question of many teachers: How do I connect what I teach with those I teach?
By recognizing and responding to varied student needs, teachers can differentiate
- the content of a lesson,
- the process or how the lesson is presented, and
- the product or way in which the student can show what he/she has learned.
This will aid in meeting the learning needs of all students in the classroom, while addressing the common concepts necessary for student success and achievement.
